Stable Situations: Sugarbelle

ree

Sweet Sugarbelle joined Misty Acres as a true rescue on the first of February of 2023. She was referred to Misty Acres by Save the Horses, an organization we’ve worked with frequently in the past. In January, Sugar (originally called Babe) was living on a farm about two hours from Misty Acres, a farm that was soon to be sold. When Julie heard about Sugar’s situation she was drawn to her, but initially Sugar was a package deal with another mare and we only had room for one at the time. Luckily, someone else stepped up to take the partner mare and Sugar was able to find her new home at Misty Acres.

Sugar officially moved to the farm on February 1st, but her journey to recovery was not over yet. She had to spend 14 days in a quarantine pasture, eating four small meals a day to get her to a healthy weight, and getting her medical records up to date.

She was able to move into the barn after her quarantine and instantly connected with the other horses, especially Sativa! Even though she was still on the road to recovery when she joined Misty Acres, Sugar was home. She was comfortable and felt loved once she arrived, following Julie around her backyard pasture and coming to the fence whenever someone approached. Today, Sugar is happy, healthy, and loved, living her best life at 25

(which she just turned, happy birthday Sugar!)

on the farm of rescues and love.
