We’re back with another post in our Stable Situations blog series from Misty Acres Farm! A new chapter is beginning, and we’re excited to share a heartwarming update. As some of you may have seen on our social media, we’re thrilled to announce that two new donkeys will soon be joining the Misty Acres family!
When Rescue Isn’t Planned, But Meant to Be
At Misty Acres Farm, welcoming new animals isn’t always part of a carefully laid plan. More often, it begins with a phone call or message- someone reaches out, we hear of a need, and then we carefully consider whether we’re in a position to help. Each decision is guided by compassion, capacity, and the hope of providing a safe and loving home.
After a year full of transitions- from relocating from Woodstock, GA to settling into our new home in York, SC, and much more- bringing new animals to the farm wasn’t exactly the top priority at the start of the year. But sometimes, an opportunity presents itself that feels less like chance and more like it was meant to be. And when that happens, we can’t say no.
That’s how Ruth and Naomi came to Misty Acres.
These two bonded donkeys, lovingly named after the biblical figures Ruth and Naomi, have spent the last eight years side by side in a quiet pasture, cherished by someone who truly loved them. But after their owner sadly passed away, they were left in need of a new place to call home.
The family, devoted to ensuring the best for these sweet girls, knew they couldn’t keep them- but they didn’t want just any place. They wanted the right place. A peaceful, caring haven where Ruth and Naomi could stay together and continue their journey side by side.
That’s exactly what Misty Acres Farm was created to be… and we’re honored to welcome them home.

Meet Ruth and Naomi
Ruth is around 12–15 years old, shy, sweet-natured, and gentle. Naomi, about 16–18, is her loyal companion; always nearby, always watching out for her.
“They remind us of the story of Ruth and Naomi,” the family said. “Whether she’s her mother or not, whether she’s mean to her or runs her off, Ruth always comes back to her side.”
The bond they share is undeniable, and it's something truly special to witness.
Like many donkeys, Ruth and Naomi have some metabolic issues that require a carefully managed diet and consistent care. They need a home that understands their unique needs—and here at Misty Acres, we’re ready to provide just that.
Next Steps: Let’s Bring Them Home
We’re ready to give Ruth and Naomi the care they need—but first, we have to get them here.
Transport Day is Set for May 25th!
We’re working to raise the funds needed to safely transport Ruth and Naomi to their new forever home, and every bit of support helps us take another step toward that goal.
Even the smallest gift helps bring these girls closer to the peaceful, loving home they deserve.
Ruth and Naomi have already reminded us of the power of loyalty, love, and sticking together, no matter what. We can’t wait to welcome them to Misty Acres, where they’ll spend the rest of their lives surrounded by patience, kindness, love, and a whole lot of donkey hugs.
Let’s bring them home.
