Meet The Rescues

Sundae
Sunday Spice, "Sundae," is a former racehorse and was the first horse Julie adopted. He was an abuse and starvation case when they met- but Julie saw the look in his eyes and knew he needed her. After his recovery, they've been inseparable ever since. He then survived colic surgery in 2020, and has since been mostly retired. He does however, enjoy being a part of the programs at Misty Acres. He continues to work with our kiddos on occasion, but mostly lives his best life being a horse! He lives a pampered life now, alongside his best friends Sprinkles and Cupcake.

Sugar
Sugarbelle, "Sugar" joined the Misty Acres Farm family in February of 2023 when rescued by Julie. She is a 25 year old mare who needed a soft place to land. Without knowing much of her history, we've been learning about her since she moved in. We suspect she used to be a barrel horse! She is loving her new home at friends on the farm and we love her too!

Sprinkles
Sprinkles joined the Misty Acres family in November of 2016 after being found on Craigslist by one of Julie's friends! She said "she needs you!" She was right. Once they met, Julie knew she belonged on the farm. Little did Julie know, however, that Sprinkles was carrying a stowaway!

Cupcake
Cupcake was Sprinkles' stowaway! Cupcake was a surprise to all when she was in 2017, the first baby born on the farm. Cupcake is a high energy donkey with a huge personality, if you're lucky she might even give you a hug!

Cash
Abby Owens adopted rescue horse Cash from our local horse rescue, Save the Horses. He is a quarter horse, though we don't know his history. He has a $ brand on his left shoulder, and he has a wonderful kind personality. We are so thrilled he found his person in Abby, and found a safe place to settle into. When we sold the GA farm, Abby and Cash stayed on to run the farm for the new owners. Abby is a current Board Member for Misty Acres, and Cash is forever a part of the Misty Acres Family!

Mocha
Mocha is the welcoming committee of Misty Acres! If you've visited the farm, you know our sweet doggo well. She's Julie's shadow, right hand girl, and best farm dog a girl could ask for.

The Chickens
At Misty Acres Farm & Sanctuary, we strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for both our human and feathered residents! Pictured here is our flock of 8 feathery chickens, who came to Misty Acres in 2022 as babies and rescues, ready to experience a life of harmony and happy clucking. They are a favored stop on all of our farm tours, and bring smiles and laughter to all who come to the farm to visit!

The Ducks
When Misty Acres Farm & Sanctuary moved to York, SC, we were offered 4 Muscovy ducks when we bought the farm. (Of course I said yes!!!) These ducks were absolutely living on their own, with no interest in interacting with humans. Over the past 3 months, I've taught them to eat out of my hands. It is very heartwarming to see them follow me and be interested in food- and know that I'm safe enough to approach. (Though, I'd rather them not sit on the front porch waiting for me and making messes while they do!) But needless to say, it is a joy to have befriended the ducks and they are absolutely part of the family now!

Boo
Boo, also fondly referred to as "Kitty Boo" is a black cat who is mostly feral, but likes to sneak inside to see if he wants to come indoors once in a while. He is a rescue who is fixed. He moved to the farm in 2018, and quickly adapted to farm life. He loves to hunt and play in the tall grass! When we sold the Georgia farm, Abby Owens, adopter of Cash and Board Member, opted to adopt Boo as well and keep him at the farm. Congrats to Abby and Boo!

Iris
Iris is a gorgeous long haired black kitty who was rescued in 2023 with her sister Poppy from a feral cat program! While she settled into the Georgia farm quite nicely, I am even more proud of her for her transition to the South Carolina farm. She has become a part of the family, following me everywhere at dinner time and caring for the horses. Her favorite place to sleep is the flower box on the front porch- how perfect, given her name!

Samantha
Samantha joined the farm family when we purchased the property in York, South Carolina. She was timid and a bit afraid of humans at first. I remember how exciting it was the first time she let me pet her, and the first time she let me pick her up. Now, it's standard for her to wait for me at the front door and ask for food, rubs, and scratches. Samantha is a super sweet kitty and loves her adopted family- especially Tony and Mocha.

In Loving Memory: Lucy
Lucy, "Lucille McGilliKitty" (if you recall Lucille Ball's character in I Love Lucy, her maiden name was Lucille McGillicuddy) was also a rescue. She moved with Julie when she moved to the farm in 2015. She was feral and Julie adopted her when she lived in Roswell before moving to Misty Acres. Lucy moved to the farm and quickly adjusted to being a farm cat! She loved her outdoor life, but also loved to be a pampered girl and snuggle up indoors to sleep. Lucy was with us for the longest, and she will always be a part of our story. Miss you, sweet Lucy kitty.

In Loving Memory: Poppy
Poppy was our dear feral cat rescue in 2023. She was adopted from a feral cat program with her sister Iris. Poppy was a beautiful striped kitty with radiant green eyes. She began to really enjoy rubbing on her favorite humans and giving love bites. Soon after she arrived, after her 5-week quarantine, she disappeared and didn't return home. This happens sometimes in acclimating feral cats to a new home. We hoped she would return, but sadly she didn't come back. We love you, Poppy!
